ABOUT

The Walt Theatre is a fully restored Art Deco movie theater offering first run movies and special screenings

Operated and owned by Walter Buchholtz, the grand opening of The Walt was on November 14, 1940 with three showings at 2:30 p.m., 7:00 p.m., and 9:00 p.m., with the western film “Wyoming” starring Wallace Beery. Admission was 10 cents for kids and 25 cents for adults.

Over the past 77 years there have been some changes, mostly minor renovations and upkeep, but amazingly the same marque on the front remains and the same “white” screen the first movie was projected on back in 1940 is still used today.

The summer of 2014 brought big changes for The Walt. The Walt converted from 35mm print to digital cinema.    Instead of using 35mm film, a digital movie is on a computer hard drive.  As a result, every movie is crystal clear, the image doesn't jump and there is no noise from the projector booth.  The Walt's digital premiere was on Friday, August 29, 2014.

The Walt Theatre is locally owned and operated.
